Downtown Poteau remains the heart of Poteau. With over 4,000 vehicles on just Dewey Avenue, along with the many and varied shops, downtown is alive and bustling!
Under the direction of Eric Standridge, Karla Holt, Kathleen Bishop, and Julie Jenkins, a period of massive transformation began in 2012. Over the next few years, new roads and sidewalks were laid, parks were built, and businesses brought in.
Today, the downtown district offers a wide variety of shopping and entertainment options.

The Mountain Gateway Community Alliance, consisting of the Poteau Farmer’s Market, the Artist Cooperative, and the Poteau Improvement Project is also headquartered in downtown Poteau.
