Historic Photos of Spiro Mounds

Spiro Mounds, located in Southeastern Oklahoma is one of the most important prehistoric Native American sites in the United States.  It is the western-most outpost of a great Caddoan empire that stretched throughout the Mississippian River Valley.

Today, Spiro Mounds remains an archaeological hotspot, as well as a fascinating tourist destination point.  Manicured trails take visitors throughout the park, while an interpretive center helps provide more history behind Spiro Mounds.

These photos provide a glimpse into the recent history of Spiro Mounds, from the early 1900s through the WPA era.
